Sighthill School Farm

Sighthill Primary in the heart of the Calders has a School Farm delivered by Wester Hailes Growers.  The school farm has fourteen raised beds in which we are growing seasonal produce including salad crops as well as, rhubarb, raspberries, gooseberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants and strawberries. We also grow edible flowers and have a plum and apple tree which we think provide the best of each.

Our School Farm Leader, Shona Nelson, works with three classes, a total of fifty six children each week.  The pupils are involved in planning, sowing, propagation, maintenance and our favourite – harvesting. It’s amazing how many are trying something for the first time and to see their faces whether it’s a thumbs up or thumbs down.
