Climate Adaptation Routemap

WHGC are working with Edible Estates, Edinburgh’s Community Climate Action Network and Wester Hailes Community Trust to ask the Wester Hailes community what climate adaptation they want to see in the area, towards developing a ‘Climate Adaptation Routemap for Wester Hailes’.
Climate adaptation could involve anything from flood prevention, local food systems, nature restoration, training young people for green jobs, improving green spaces, to preparing our homes for severe weather. Many of these things are double wins – they make our places better, as well as protecting them from climate change.
It is currently a three month project, but we hope to get further support to keep it going.  We’re building on solid foundations, Wester Hailes was the first area in Scotland to produce a Local Place Plan, laying out the community’s vision for the future.
The project is been led locally by a team of local resident ‘community researchers’ supported by Sarah McArthur from Edible Estates.
These Wester Hailes locals are perfectly placed to run this community research project; they’re already involved in heaps of work in the community, and they understand the fine details of life in Wester Hailes.  They will be organising events and activities to get the views of as many Wester Hailes residents as possible. Are you interested in sharing your views? If so get in touch we’d love to hear from you!
